A very long-established hotel in a prominent location above Tolcarne beach in the resort has been put to use to house refugees seeking asylum who have entered the UK.

Footage captured on November 7 shows Beresford Hotel in Newquay where migrants are being housed.

Recently the owner of the Tintagel Castle hotel in Tintagel claimed he was offered a 12-month, million-pound contract to provide similar accommodation. They declined the offer.

Local MP Steve Double says Cornwall must do its bit to help.

He said in a statement: "We all know that one of the biggest challenges facing our country at the moment is the number of migrants and asylum seekers coming to the UK.

“This was brought home to Cornwall over the weekend with confirmation that the Home Office is using a Newquay hotel to house a limited number of migrants and asylum seekers.

“This is a national issue and each part of our country must do its bit to help.”
