Refugees and asylum seekers are living on the streets of Toronto as funding for emergency housing for the homeless runs out and all shelters are full, according to local reports.

"Toronto already has a severe homeless, housing and unemployment crisis with shelters turning people away each night as is the case across the country but now refugees and asylum seekers who have been welcomed here by the federal government are finding out," Newsflare's filmer said, a longtime local journalist. "There is no place to go so they are left to sleep on the streets in all weather."

According to one local report, citing city figures, there were 2,900 refugee claimants in Toronto’s shelter system in May of this year. This is reportedly an increase of 440 per cent compared to September 2021.
