This is the scary moment a dust devil tornado blew away a sun umbrella on a road in Cambodia.

Drivers were passing by the area when they saw the rotating gusty winds pick up the item from a roadside stall in Krong Bavet, Svay Rieng Province, on November 7.

The weather phenomenon then took debris on the dirt path, including the discarded red umbrella.

Footage shows the umbrella tumbling along the ground until it was lifted and carried away some 20ft off the ground.

Driver Steven Tan said: 'We saw the flying umbrella while we were stuck in traffic. It was unusual to see something like that.

‘I think the winds were also the cause why the cars in front were delayed.'

The driver added that the umbrella drifted to the ground after about five minutes.

Dust devils are a type of whirlwind tornado that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up, rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris and making the spiral visible.
