Residents in Lumajang Regency, East Java were evacuated on Sunday (December 4) .Authorities raised the warning on Semeru volcano on the island of Java to the highest level, according to agency reports.

Affected by hot clouds falling from Semeru, residents in Lumajang evacuated

A number of residents in Lumajang Regency, East Java were evacuated due to hot clouds (APG) coming out of the crater of Mount Semeru.

"For the time being we evacuate the residents first, to guard against all eventualities," said the Head of the Prevention and Preparedness Division at the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lumajang Regency, Wawan Hadi by telephone, Saturday (4/12/2021).

The residents who were evacuated were residents in Curah Kobokan, Pronojiwo and Kajar Kuning Districts, Candipuro District.

"Residents in Kajar Kuning and Bulk Kobokan will be evacuated first," he said.

They are still investigating the incident. Including the possibility of setting up emergency posts for residents.

"For developments, I ask for time, if it becomes dangerous later, we will open an emergency post," he explained.

It is known that the volcanic activity of Mount Semeru increased on Saturday (4/12/2021), around 15.00 WIB.

The mountain with a height of 3,676 meters above sea level (masl) emits Hot Fall Clouds (APG). The flow of hot clouds has reached the Kobokan Crater, Lumajang Regency or as far as 11 kilometers from the crater.
