A gas tank exploded at a crowded laundry shop injuring 16 people in the Philippines.

Shocking CCTV footage shows the blast coming from inside the establishment in Manila City on January 30 evening.

The powerful impact sent passersby scrambling away from the property while the others were trapped inside.

The explosion triggered a fire which was extinguished about half an hour later after ten trucks responded in the area which was near a school.

Meanwhile, 16 injured residents who were inside the shop and passing by the street were rushed to three hospitals nearby where they received treatment.

Bureau of Fire Protection officer Chris Pascual said: ‘Initial reports said the cause of fire was gas leak, which caused an explosion.'

A rescue team responded to the scene and gave first aid to victims before taking them to Philippine General Hospital, Adventist Medical Center Manila and Ospital ng Maynila.

Officers were this week still investigating the burned laundry shop to check the extent of damage.
