Amusing footage shows how pet cats disrupt a toy train as it travels around a miniature town in Japan.

The felines are seen sitting on top of model mountains waiting for the battery-operated locomotive to pass by at the cafe in Osaka.

When the toy arrived within reach, they took turns poking it with their paws, knocking the carriages over, or completely taking them off the rail tracks.

Amused customers say they love to visit the creatures and watch them while taking a sip of tea or coffee at the shop.

Naoki Teraoka, the owner of the Diorama Tetsudokan cafe, said: ‘We take care of many cats here. Some of them were adopted as strays.

‘We installed a miniature town at one side of the cafe as an additional attraction but the cats seemed to enjoy it more.'

Naoki added the felines would hang out around the miniature town together and chase the train. They are fascinated by the replica passenger locomotive, she said.

Naoki said: ‘Sometimes, they will gang up on the train like it was a battery-operated mouse. It became a pastime and playtime for them. Our customers were very happy and curious to watch them.'

Aside from coffee and tea, the cafe offers lunch meals and small trinkets as souvenirs. Customers are free to play with the felines all day.
