Footage shows the search for survivors and victims trapped in the rubble of collapsed homes in Syria after a catastrophic earthquake struck on February 6 killing at least 4,800 people.

Dozens of families were trapped in the debris of buildings in the village of Basnia, in Haram, on February 6 afternoon.

The magnitude 7.8 quake was recorded at a depth of 24.1 kilometres some 23 kilometres east of Nurdagi in the Gaziantep province of Turkey near Syria's northern border at 1:17 UTC, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The USGS said the quake also jolted Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Georgia, and Armenia.
