A 10-foot long wild python sparked panic when it coiled itself around a bundle of power cables for a nap outside a family's home in Thailand.

Resident Thipparat Petchthaweerat, 54, called the emergency services after discovering the sleepy reptile resting on the lines in Chonburi province on February 5.

An officer arrived at the scene as stray dogs barked at the serpent hanging above. He used a stepladder to reach the creature, but it clung tightly to the wires and tried to fend him off by spraying toxins.

After wrangling the beast for around 30 minutes, the man finally knocked it and pulled the snake down from its perch.

Thipparat said: 'I also found two smaller baby pythons in my garden. I think that was their mother, and it climbed onto the cables to escape from stray dogs.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
