A family with young children were left horrified when a pack of 'out of control' hounds ripped a fox apart in their back garden.

A young mum, who asked to only named as Daisy, 29,

found the fox had been killed by an estimated 32 dogs in her garden.

The area was strewn with its blood and entrails, she said.

CCTV video captured the moment the distressed animal entered the garden trying to find a hiding place from a pack of dogs on the afternoon of Monday, Feb 20.

Dogs are seen stampeding across the garden in Hingham, Norfolk, sniffing around the edges as the fox makes a run for its life.

Only for it to run straight into the jaws of one of the dogs before it is torn apart.

A man then jumps the fence of the detached property to retrieve the carcass before the dogs leave.

Daisy, 29, is mum to two children ages two and four who regularly play in her garden.

She said: "I was really distressed, not just about the fox being killed but of people thinking they have a God-given right to enter our home."

"It's pretty disgusting really, I don't know how people get enjoyment out of an innocent animal being ripped to shreds by 30-odd dogs- they can't be right in their heads."

"In the video, you can hear the frenzy of those dogs, there's no way the huntsmen didn't know they were on my patio."

"They didn't want to do anything about it until the fox had been killed."

Her mum, 66, who suffers from ovarian cancer is currently undergoing chemotherapy and was asleep upstairs when she awoke to the sounds of the dogs in the garden.

Daisy, a manager for a construction business, said: "She was very distressed to find blood, fur and organs across the patio. "

"If it had been another day my kids would have been playing out there with her at that very moment. "

"It's a real problem- I feel like we're not safe in our home. We have a locked gate but it didn't make a difference."

Daisy said the huntsman was then seen hurrying off with the fox inside his coat before passing the fox to a person on a quad bike with no number plates driving on the road.

Police have since identified the group as the West Norfolk Hunt, who can be seen in the video passing the garden on the road outside on horseback as the dogs kill the fox.

Fox hunting was banned in the 2004 Hunting Act in England and Wales and in 2002 in Scotland.

The UK government website states it is illegal to hunt foxes with a pack of dogs, but dogs can be used to simulate hunting.

Foxes can be chased and killed if the animal is causing damage to property or the environment, using up to two dogs.

The fox must then be shot quickly after it's been found. The hunter must also carry proof of written permission from the landowner to hunt.

The West Norfolk Hunt group has been trail hunting since 2005.

In a statement the West Norfolk Hunt group wrote: "The Hunt is aware of an incident which took place while it was conducting lawful trail hunting activities in the Hingham area on Monday 20th February."

"The Hunt has been in contact with the occupiers of the house and apologised for any distress this isolated accident may have caused. "

"The Hunt has also been assisting the police with their enquiries."

According to Daisy one of the huntsmen tried to contact her the day after the incident, stating he wanted to "settle up" for the criminal damage caused."

He then stopped calling her after the police told him it was deemed as "witness tampering"."

Daisy said: "I hope the group are prosecuted for criminal damage, trespass and under section one of the Hunting Act. It's not legal."

A spokesperson from the Norfolk and Suffolk Hunt Saboteurs Association, which uses direct action to stop fox hunting, said: "Our thoughts are with the family who’ve had to endure this frightening and deeply shocking crime in their own home. "

"We understand the homeowner’s elderly mother is undergoing chemotherapy and was resting at her daughter's home at the time. "

"We particularly sympathise with her situation and wish her well."

"Norfolk and Suffolk Hunt Saboteurs regularly attend illegal hunts conducted by the West Norfolk Foxhounds. "

"We have observed and recorded them routinely hunting outside of the law as well as a litany of associated crimes. "

"The West Norfolk Foxhounds have a well-earned reputation for violence and intimidation meted out to sabs and local residents alike."

"This week is the 18th anniversary of the hunting act. The act is clear, hunting animals with a pack of dogs is illegal. "

"We call for the full enforcement of the law to bring hunters and the complicit landowners who host them to justice."

Norfolk Police said: "Police were called to Hingham on Monday 20 February 2023 following a report that a group of dogs had entered the garden of a private property in the village without permission and killed a fox."

"The matter is now being investigated by Norfolk Constabulary’s Operation Randall rural crime team."

According to the Hunt Saboteurs group there is a regular occurrence of dogs being "out of control" on hunts. "

Footage shared by the Surrey Hunt Saboteurs shows the moment a huge pack of dogs runs onto an Essex B road on Feb 4 directly in front of a moving van, which brakes suddenly to avoid hitting the animals.
