Man receives life-changing injuries in horror crash on M5 during snowfall near Bromsgrove

A man has recieved life-changing injuries after a lorry smashed 2 vehicles on the Northbound carriageway of the M5 Motorway between junctions 4 and 3, Bromsgrove and South West Birmingham just after midnight March 9.

The victim of the blue car was taken to hospital where re remains today.

West Mercia Police closed the carriageway, near to the M42, to carry out investigations into the horrifying collision which saw the blue vehicle almost unrecognisable after the rear of the vehicle was completely flattened creating almost half of a car.

Skid marks could be seen in the snow where the vehicle slid into the central reservation barrier as police placed evidence markers down. A Kingsmill lorry which was involved in the smash stopped further along the road.

The Beast From The East has caused widespread disruption to Britain's road network.

The road was closed throughout the night and into the morning affecting rush hour as an 'up and over' road block was implemented.

West Mercia Police Statement:

"We are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision on the northbound carriageway of the M5 this morning (9 March), between junctions 4 and 3.

"Officers were called shortly 00.10am to reports of a three vehicle collision.

"A man from one of the vehicles involved has been taken to hospital with life changing injuries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information or dash-cam footage which may help with the investigation is asked to contact West Mercia Police."

West Midlands Ambulance Statement:

“Upon arrival, ambulance staff found four patients from the car.

“The driver, a man, and two passengers who were both women had sustained serious injuries. They received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene.

“All three were conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under blue light conditions for further treatment”

“A third passenger had sustained non-serious injuries. She received treatment from ambulance staff and was conveyed to Sandwell District Hospital for further assessment.”

“The driver of the lorry did not require treatment.”
