A hapless baby boy was found alive with its umbilical cord still attached in a secluded alley in Thailand.

The crying infant was peppered with mosquito bites when it was found by residents naked and abandoned in front of house number 65 along Soi Sukhumvit 36 in Bangkok on April 29 morning.

Passer-by Ong Na, 18, said she heard the boy wailing near a parked pick-up truck as she was out on an errand.

When she looked through the alley nearby, she was shocked to discover the newborn lying exposed on the ground. She hurried back home to retrieve a towel to cover it before calling the police.

Ong, who is seen in the video in a blue and gold shirt, said: 'I was afraid the baby was hurt. He looked so small and his hair was wet. He was crying and had mosquitoes on him.

'I feel lucky to have been the person to find him. I want to make sure he is OK and has a family who will take care of him.'

Paramedics rushed the baby to the Police General Hospital.

Police officers at the scene said they believe the boy was just a few hours old. They will be reviewing the surveillance footage in the area to track down the baby's parents.
