A spectacular twister rotated on a field kicking up clouds of dust under the baking sun in Thailand.

Video shows the brown dust devil tornado causing chaos as it moved across the field in Phetchaburi province on May 8.

Onlooker Poonchida Sukamnui said the weather was hot when the twister materialised in the open space. Temperatures reached more than 40 degrees Celsius on the day that the dust devil tornado happened.

Poonchida said: 'I've never seen a tornado like this before. I think it was because it was so hot that day.'

Dust devil tornadoes are types of whirlwinds that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up and rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris and making the spiral visible.

They are not as dangerous as supercell tornadoes, which can cause severe damage.
