Driver narrowly escapes as giant rock hits SUV on Chinese highway
A driver narrowly escaped as a giant rock hit his SUV on a highway in southern China.
Dramatic video filmed on the 318 Highway section of Sister Lakes in Batang County in Sichuan Province on May 16, shows a rock tumbling down a mountain and striking a black Volkswagen Teramont on the road under it.
The vehicle was seen overturned on its side, with severe head deformation, engine compartment sustaining damage and multiple airbags deployed.
On the morning of May 17, local authorities responded, confirming that no casualties were reported in the accident.
The affected road section is currently under repair, and there were safety warning signs in place to caution motorists about the area. Drivers were reminded to maintain appropriate speeds and be observant while passing through.
According to reports, the occupants of the vehicle had temporarily stepped out to take photos due to a traffic jam when the rockfall occurred, striking the SUV.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the damaged off-road vehicle was towed away from the scene.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
