A bungling driver almost caused a collision by travelling in the wrong lane.

Dashcam footage shows the pickup truck split seconds from crashing into an oncoming car in Lampang province, Thailand May 23.

It quickly swerved back to its proper lane along the curved highway.

Driver Pawares Dermatoranin's companion can be heard screaming as he tried to regain his composure.

He said: ‘You shouldn't do that no matter how much in a hurry you might be. You are seriously putting yourself and other people in danger.'

The pickup truck's driver has not yet been identified. No one was hurt in the incident.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
