Streets flooded as severe hailstorm hits northern China

A severe hailstorm and heavy rainfall left a city flooded in northern China.

Video filmed in Hailin City in Heilongjiang Province on June 6 shows ice water flowing down a street and vehicles struggling to move along the flooded road.

According to an official report from the authorities in Hailin City, the hailstorms and heavy rain persisted for nearly 30 minutes.

The hailstones were estimated to have a diametre of about 2 to 3 centimetres. As of 12 pm on Tuesday (June 6), the highest recorded rainfall was in Shuangqiao Village, reaching a staggering 35 millimetres.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Currently, Changting Town has restored normalcy in terms of daily life and production activities, while the extent of the damage to crops is being further assessed.
