Cape Town, 12 June 2023: The French renewable energy vessel, Energy Observer, arrived in Cape Town over the weekend to promote renewable and sustainable energy generation. The vessel has also set up a public exhibition in Table Bay harbour to promote the ship and renewable energy initiatives.

Energy Observer is the first vessel to be powered by hydrogen to have sailed around the world. Th ship’s crew is made up of two teams of five people.

The launch in Cape Town was preceded by a press conference and then journalists and other stakeholders were given guided tours of the vessel and the exhibition.

The vessel is captained by Jean Baptiste Sanchez, who has been working on the vessel for five years. Sanchez says the role pf Energy Observer is to promote renewable energy in a sustainable way.
