An ambulance was spotted driving against traffic on a highway in central China, narrowly avoiding a collision with vehicles travelling in the correct direction.

The video was filmed in Jingzhou City in Hubei Province on June 10.

Traffic police officers from Jiangling Brigade in Jingzhou City made a significant breakthrough in their investigation. They identified the driver of the ambulance and established that the vehicle did not belong to a hospital's emergency medical services.

According to the statement released by the police, the driver claimed that there were two critically injured patients on board who had been involved in a separate traffic accident.

In an effort to expedite their transfer to a medical facility, the driver resorted to the drastic measure of driving against the flow of traffic on the highway. Shockingly, no prior notification or coordination was made with the ambulance's affiliated company or the traffic police.

The authorities have taken the incident seriously and demanded that both the driver and the company's legal representative appear at the traffic police station for further investigation. The outcome of the investigation will be reported to the higher authorities in due course.
