Terrified farmers found an unexploded rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) lying in a cassava plantation in Thailand.

Arn Maichai, 50, and his co-workers were spraying herbicides on the cassava field in Chonburi province when they spotted the bomb next to clumps of tall grass by the roadside on July 4.

He reported the discovery to his supervisor, then called the Bo Thong Police Station to dispose of the dangerous object.

Arn said: 'I thought it was a toy at first because it was colourful. But when I picked it up, I recognised that it was a dangerous item. I put it back down and told the others to move away from the vicinity.'

Police officers from the Bo Thong district arrived at around 6:30 pm and placed a rubber tire over the explosive to mark its location while they waited for the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team to arrive.

The specialists were able to recover the bomb RPG safely, and brought it back to the police station for inspection.

The officers said they will launch an investigation to find who left the explosive behind. They said the suspect may face legal charges.
