STANDUP (English): ZHANG BONING, Xinhua correspondent
"The Edinburgh Festival Carnival is once again creating festive vibes and unforgettable memories here in the center of Scotland's capital on Sunday, as hundreds of performers and tens of thousands of spectators come together for a flamboyant display of costumes, dance, music, and more."

Performances put on by the Chinese community in Edinburgh, such as festive dragon and lion dance, colorful ethnic dance, exhilarating drumming and swordplay, drew waves of roaring applause.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): CINTHIA MEDRADO, Local resident
"It's beautiful and the weather doesn't intimidate anyone. (There are) lots of countries, lots of different cultures and colors, and different music. It's brilliant. I like China's dragon (dancing) going around. It's beautiful. The movement is very fluid."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JACK HOCKING, Dragon dance performer
"I really enjoyed it (dragon dance). I think it's really interesting learning the culture and learning more about things and learning about the language and the history, the history of the country specifically. China as a whole has always been really interesting."

The carnival is an annual event organized by the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival which was set up in 1978. It marks the beginning of Edinburgh's Summer Festival season when a series of festivals will last from mid-July till the end of August.
