A tropical storm hit the Thai capital Bangkok, causing flash floods across the city on Thursday evening.

Footage shows heavy rainfall battering the city's Ladprao area as cars waded through the rippling deluge on September 21.

The Thai Meteorological Department said in a September 22 advisory that heavy rains were expected in Bangkok and its vicinity, as easterly winds prevail over Thailand's northeast, central, and eastern regions.

Residents, especially those living near foothills and low-lying areas, have been warned of potential flash floods.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
