Severe floods caused by seasonal monsoon rains swamped a village in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the muddy deluge submerging streets as residents waded through knee-deep waters in Uttaradit province on October 9.

Local authorities said forest runoff had rushed toward houses, with the overflowing Nan River also contributing to the floods.

More than 1,300 households were affected by the flooding in the Fak Tha district alone, which saw waters rise to up to 14 feet high, officials said.

The Uttaradit Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office said it was surveying the stricken areas to provide disaster relief.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

Bangkok and large parts of the north and northeast of the country have been swamped with flash floods from tropical thunderstorms.
