Historic vessels met up at Red Sands Forts off Kent, UK this afternoon (September 30).

The world's last seagoing paddle steamer Waverley, joined the last Thames ship handling steam tug Challenge along with Thames sailing barge Greta at the iconic towers along with a host of spectator vessels including X-Pilot, Jetstream's Cruiser and Whitstable Boat Tours.

The historic event was to celebrate the 80th anniversary year of steam tug Challenge positioning the first Red Sand fort in the Thames Estuary back in 1943.

The special event was coordinated by Margaret McEwan, an expert on the Guy Maunsell designed sea forts, and founder of a popular Maunsell forts appreciation group on Facebook.
