BBC News reports today (April 13) that a recent survey of Thames shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery has detected 18 'metallic objects' around the wreck delaying plans to remove the wreck's masts.

The doomed American Liberty ship sank 1.5 miles off Sheerness in Kent back in 1944 with 1400 tons of explosives onboard.

Government efforts to remove the masts is now having to be re-planned in light of the objects, but the aim is still to remove the masts within the next year.

Footage shows the wreck at low tide this morning, followed by Port of London vessel Maplin seen surveying the wreck last Wednesday (April 10).
