A leopard was rescued after it fell into a well while looking food in western India's Gujarat.

The incident happened in Gungavada village in Chhota Udaipur district on October 16.

Video showed the leopard inside the well hanging on to a plank of wood that had ropes tied at both ends.

The forest department soon arrived to pull it out, lowering a steel cage into the well for the animal to enter.

The leopard stared at the cage for a while before eventually clambering into the cage, after which the gate was closed and it was successfully pulled out of the well.

The leopard didn't look too happy about things, growling at its rescuers as they tried to get it out of the well.

According to a report, the rescue operation was led by forest range officer NC Rathwa. Forester Yogesh Bariya also took part in this operation.

The well was particularly deep and the whole process lasted for an hour and a half.
