A migrant worker destroyed the banned tools in protest at a train station in eastern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Nantong in Jiangsu Province on October 29. A man was seen squatting on the floor to destroy his own tools at Nantong Railway Station.

Eyewitnesses shared that the worker mentioned he only earned around 200 yuan (£23) daily and that those tools were his means of making a living. When railway officials asked him to dispatch the tools separately, he refused. Overwhelmed with emotion, he opted to destroy them instead.

In response to the public outcry, a representative of Nantong Railway Station clarified the regulations. They stated that certain items are prohibited from being carried on board but can be checked in. The staff had informed the traveller about these rules and had offered him options, which included dispatching the tools or leaving them at the station for retrieval within a stipulated time.

“It’s distressing when passengers don’t understand the rules,” they expressed, emphasising that these regulations are publicly available, and announcements to that effect are displayed at the station.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
