Boats headed in for shelter in Plymouth as Storm Ciaran approached the UK on Wednesday 1 November.

Winds whipped up choppy waters and high water levels along the Devon Coast.

Royal Marines on ribs (rigid inflatable boats) and the harbour master headed in for some safety from the storm.

Amber severe weather warnings for wind have been issued by the Met Office ahead of the worst of the weather, expected on Wednesday night.

Damaging gusts of wind and stormy seas are expected in southern parts of the UK. Heavy rain may also spread northwards, leading to possible flooding.
