Locals in Khalanga, Nepal, inspected the damage after the area was rocked by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, the country's worst since 2015.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the earthquake with an epicentre in Jajarkot district, about 500km west of Kathmandu, was recorded at 11:47 pm on Friday.

The quake has left 157 dead and more than 300 injured.

Sobbing relatives of victims from Nepal’s worst earthquake in eight years cremated their loved ones on Sunday as rescuers looked for people who could still be trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Nepal is situated in a geologically active region, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, forming the Himalayas and making earthquakes a frequent occurrence. In 2015, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake claimed the lives of around 9,000 people and caused significant damage to around 1 million structures.
