A frantic family carried their pet dogs to the roof as they fled from their flooded home during a storm in the Philippines.

Dramatic footage shows resident Brithney Maglajos and her family wading through the waist-deep deluge that had entered their house in Davao City, Davao del Sur province, on November 8.

The locals made sure all their pet dogs were with them before climbing up to the roof to await rescue teams.

The local government said around 6,000 families in seven villages were affected by the floods spawned by the two-hour heavy rainfall in the city. There were no reports of casualties.

Crashed and broken vehicles, flood debris, and tree branches were all seen scattered on the street the next morning.

State weather agency PAGASA said the thunderstorm was caused by the easterlies prevailing over many parts of the country.
