This is the shocking moment a bus smashed into a truck, killing one commuter and injuring 10 others in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday.

The blue Nex electric coach was plying route 113 along Bangkok's Min Buri and Hua Lamphong districts when it struck the pickup truck style bus while it was unloading passengers on the roadside on November 14.

Dashcam footage shows the vehicle, known locally as a 'songthaew' or share taxi, stopped on the left side of Sukhapibal 3 Road before it was hit by the bus moving at high speed.

Police officers found the severely damaged taxi pushed up against the kerb with its roof collapsed, while the electric bus had its windshield cracked.

Min Buri district police officers said 11 people, including a young boy, were injured and rushed to hospitals. However, one of them, a 68-year-old man with serious injuries, was reported to have died.

An injured passenger said both the coach and the songthaew bus had been cutting in front of each other before the crash.

The coach driver Chonkan, 33, claimed he was distracted while changing lanes.

Operator Thai Smile Bus said their vehicle had been travelling within the 55kph speed limit, and was also in proper working condition. The company said it would compensate the victims of the accident and would enhance safety measures.

Local media reported that Chonkan has been charged with reckless driving and was scheduled to appear at the Minburi Criminal Court.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
