Siamese crocodile captured in park lake following tourist sighting in China
A Siamese crocodile was captured in a park's lake following a tourist sighting in southern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Haikou in Hainan Province on November 21.
A 60-centimetre-long crocodile was discovered in a lake at Hongchenghu Park.
The local forestry officials sprang into action to address the potential danger posed by the reptilian visitor. A professional team was organised to capture the crocodile.
The responsible officials from the city's Forestry Bureau disclosed plans to transfer the captured crocodile to the Haikou Terrestrial Wildlife Rescue Centre for a thorough check-up. In the meantime, additional patrols around the lake are being planned to ensure public safety and to check for any more unexpected wildlife.
Adding to the mystery, officials from the Qiongshan District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau speculated that the crocodile's presence in the lake, an environment not native to these reptiles, was likely due to human intervention. It's believed the crocodile might have been abandoned or released into the lake, raising questions about wildlife trade and animal welfare in the region.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
