Can Elephants Smell Water? Here is Proof!
Kruger National Park, South Africa

I spotted these Elephants digging in a dry riverbed. Soon it became clear what they were digging for - water.
Elephants have a keen sense of smell, detecting water sources up to 19.2 km (12 mi.) away.
Dry riverbeds often have some underground water underneath the sand. The water running under the sand is a lot cleaner as the sand has filtered them.
As the second Elephant patiently waited his turn, the first Elephant had a quick drink and a splash.
Then she(most probably the Matriarch) started digging a new hole - for others to have some water as well and to avoid congestion.
Suddenly Elephants popped out from everywhere - as if they knew what was going on and that they could get some relief from their tremendous thirst.
One by one, the Elephants came rushing down. Some were running and trumpeting with excitement.
Take note of how they patiently wait for the one before them, to finish, before getting a chance to have a drink.
Looking at all the Elephant dung lying around, one can see they visit this spot regularly.

Amazing how highly intelligent animals Elephants are!
