Residents move under the rain of ash from volcanic eruptions in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in the hamlet of Cumantiang Bukik Batabuah, Agam, West Sumatra Province, on 13 December 2023, shows the atmosphere in the highest and closest village, about 5 km from the crater at the top of the mountain.

Marapi's activity has increased since its major eruption on Sunday (3.12.2023). Subsequent eruptions and gusts have continued until today (16.12.2023).

The eruption also sent a shower of volcanic ash and sand 27 miles away. Mother nature also killed 23 hikers.

Mount Marapi is on alert or level 2 above normal active. Authorised officers are recommending a ban on entering and approaching within a 3km radius of the crater at the top. There is no call for residents to evacuate.
