The Thai cave where footballers were rescued from a flood in 2018 has been opened to adventure seekers in Thailand.

Visitors can register for guided tours at the Tham Luang Cave in Chiang Rai province starting December 15.

Interested tourists must reserve their slots 15 days earlier, and pay a fee of 950 THB (27 USD) for Thai locals and 1,500 THB (43 USD) for foreign backpackers.

Chutidech Kamonnachanut, director of the Conservation Area Administration Office 15, said entering Tham Luang's 200m-deep Chamber 1 was free, while visiting Chambers 2 and 3 farther into the cave will require prior registration.

Tourists will be able to explore the cave's geological features during the trek, while also learning about the breathtaking rescue of the Wild Boars football team that gripped the world in 2018.

Only 10 people were allowed per trip, with only two trips available per day.

Chutidech said: 'Of the total fee, 500 baht would be distributed among the staff, 150 baht allocated to support injured or deceased rangers and Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation personnel, and 300 baht set aside for cave maintenance. The maintenance funds will be used for expenses not covered by the government, including equipment fees, first aid, and life insurance.'

The Tham Luang cave is part of the Tham Luang–Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park in northern Chiang Rai province.

It gained worldwide attention in 2018 when 12 footballers were trapped inside during monsoon rains. The lads and their coach were saved more than a week later following rescue efforts from international volunteers and specialists.
