A scared pet dog entangled in a football net was rescued by a Buddhist monk in Thailand.

The pooch was playing outdoors when it became stuck in the football net near the Wat Sra Prathum temple in Ang Thong province on December 30.

Rescue volunteers arrived and found the animal twisted in the netting. They tried approaching, but the frightened dog growled and snapped at them.

A monk from the temple later arrived to calm the dog, allowing the rescuers to cut it free. It was seen happily wagging its tail as it walked back to the temple next to its owner.

Thailand, a largely Buddhist nation, believes that kindness towards animals should be encouraged, with temples sometimes being a safe refuge for stray cats, dogs, and even monkeys that don't have homes.
