A brave police officer risked his own life and safety as he dragged himself across 100 feet of ice to save a woman who had accidentally fallen through a frozen lake and got stuck there.

The incident reportedly unfolded in Shaanxi, China, as the woman, who was not identified, had walked to the middle of the frozen lake thinking it was safe.

Shocked passersby immediately alerted police after they saw her floating about 100ft away in the freezing cold water on December 22.

Two officers from the Xianyang Lake Police Station of the Qindu Public Security Sub-Bureau rushed to the scene and went after her without a second's thought.

Phone footage shows how one of them dragged himself on a stretcher from an ambulance across the icy surface to approach the woman.

The other officer also crawled along the ice to help them reach the shore as fast as possible before either of them developed life-threatening hypothermia.

Staff from nearby scenic areas also rushed to help and threw a long piece of material at them to help pull them towards dry land.

The officers carefully inched across the ice and pulled the woman to safety, then handed her over to paramedics.

Thanks to their speedy reaction, she made it out without any serious harm, local media reported.
