A Russian plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war crashed at the Russia-Ukraine border on Wednesday.

The Ilyushin Il-76 military aircraft was delivering the POWs to be swapped for Russian captives when it plummeted in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine on January 24.

Footage shows the plane nosediving from the sky before bursting into a huge fireball.

The Russian state-run RIA-Novosti news agency citing the Russian defence ministry reported 74 people were onboard, including six crew members and three escorts.

The cause of the crash and death toll were not immediately clear.
