A hospital in West Sumatra, Indonesia, exploded, causing panic and resulting in injuries

On Tuesday (30/1/2024), around 15:53, an explosion occurred in the waiting room of the Polyclinic at SemenPadang Hospital, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The explosion, originating from the attic of the room, resulted in many individuals waiting for medical check-ups becoming injured.

Healthcare staff, patients, and visitors panicked and scattered outside the hospital in response to the explosion. Rizky Febriela, the Public Relations Subsection Head of SemenPadang Hospital, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway regarding the cause of the explosion. As of now, there is no official information on the number of casualties due to the incident. The situation at the location remains chaotic, with patients being evacuated from the building. Authorities are focused on managing the situation on-site.
