STORYLINE:

In a recent in interview with Xinhua, a French economist foresees a promising outlook for China's economic growth, expecting the country's greater contribution to the global economy.

SOUNDBITE 1 (French): MICHEL RUIMY, Economist, Professor of economy at Sciences Po Paris and ESCP Europe
"China's qualitative development is positive as it will contribute to the prosperity of the country and the world. It is based on: more sustainable economic growth. China is seeking to reduce its dependence on carbon-intensive industries and promote high value-added sectors. A fairer society. China is seeking to reduce income inequalities through its social policy, but also to improve the education and health of its population. A healthier environment. China is seeking to reduce pollution by investing in renewable energies and public transport, helping to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. It has also adopted stricter environmental standards, helping to reduce air and water pollution. China's contribution to the global economy will continue to grow in the years ahead, especially as it is becoming a world leader in a number of sectors, including information technology, manufactured goods and renewable energies. China's contribution to the global economy is positive for the entire planet. Its role is set to grow in the years ahead."

He also highlighted the Chinese market's potential to attract foreign investments.

SOUNDBITE 2 (French): MICHEL RUIMY, Economist, Professor of economy at Sciences Po Paris and ESCP Europe
"Firstly, China is a dynamic economy. It is an important trading partner for many countries, and one of the drivers of global economic growth. For example, as China is the world's largest manufacturer, foreign companies can invest in the manufacture of electronics, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, textiles and more. Secondly, China's domestic market is over 1.4 billion people, and its middle-income population is set to double from 400 million to 800 million in the next decade or so. This makes China an attractive destination for foreign companies looking to expand and access new markets."
