This is the heartwarming moment a police officer helped a wheelchair user cross an intersection in South Bend.

Concerned passersby called into the Chief's Office after witnessing the disabled man struggling to navigate the road at the Sample/Main intersection in South Bend, Indiana, on January 24.

Officer Burns swiftly responded, activating his patrol vehicle lights, stepping out, and pushing the gentleman safely across the intersection to a nearby gas station.

The residents who witnessed the act didn't know the officer's name but expressed their gratitude, prompting the department to identify Officer Burns and commend his compassionate actions.

They said: 'Chaplain James Burns of the South Bend Police Department is deserving of recognition after going above and beyond the call of duty.'
