A fire at Port of Sheerness in Kent, UK continues to burn late this evening (February 17) several hours after it started.

The fire which broke out at a recycling centre in the port at 11am this morning, continued to burn brightly at 10pm local time.

Four fire engines and a bulk water carrier have been tackling the blaze all day.

A fire fighting tug sent to help appeared to retreat this evening, after initially approaching the scene from the seaward side.

A ship bringing new cars into the car also appears to have been delayed by the fire. According to the ship tracking website Marine Traffic, vehicles carrier Auto Advance is currently anchored several miles offshore of Sheerness.
