A Russian skier lost his life after a massive avalanche struck northern India's Jammu and Kashmir.

This incident happened at the Kongdoori slopes in Gulmarg on February 22.

Visuals showed the rescuers putting their best foot forward in trying to save the lives of the foreigners trapped underneath the snow. They used shovels to dig into the deep layer of snow in order to pull out the victims. They were visibly in a hurry and rightfully so, with lives on the line. Later on, the rescuers were seen rescued one of these people from the snow. The victim laid lifeless and was strapped onto a stretcher by the rescuers. He was administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) but to no avail as he didn't show any sign of life. He was later taken out of the area and loaded into an ambulance. The other foreign tourists, who were rescued, were also seen walking along with the ones involved in the whole operation.

According to a report, seven skiers were affected by the avalanche which struck the ski resort town of Gulmarg and one of them, a female, lost her life. Six others have successfully been rescued. The tourists were stuck in knee-deep snow and members of the Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir administration rushed to rescue them. Authorities also used helicopter services to aid the rescue operation. The foreign tourists, it was learnt, had gone for skiing without informing the locals and also without their company and six of these seven were rescued. Those rescued were taken for treatment at a hospital.
