The PM of the Palestinian Autonomous Government and his government resign in West Bank
Palestinian Autonomous Government Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh and his government submitted their resignations, they announced Monday.
"I would like to inform the honorable council and our great people that I put the resignation of the government at the disposal of Mr. President (Mahmoud Abbas) last Tuesday, and today I am submitting it in writing," Shtayyeh said in a Facebook post.
The resignation comes as the Palestinian Autonomous Government, considered corrupt, comes under intense pressure from the United States to reform and improve its governance in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The resignation comes at a time when the Palestinian Autonomous Government is facing intense pressure from the United States to reform and improve its governance in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. U.S. politicians and Palestinians themselves have long considered the Palestinian Autonomous Government to be corrupt.
SOUNDBITE:
MOHAMMAD SHTAYYEH, Palestinian Prime Minister:
"I submitted the government's resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas on February 20, 2024, and today I submit it in writing.
