STORYLINE:

Artists from northeast China's Liaoning Province captivated audience members in Vladivostok, Russia with ballet performances and an exhibition of intangible cultural heritages.

It is part of the activities celebrating the China-Russia Years of Culture.

From February 20 to 25, China's Liaoning Ballet staged five mesmerizing performances at the Mariinsky Theater, featuring the Chinese original ballet dance poem "Sundial" and the classic "Notre Dame de Paris."

SOUNDBITE 1 (Russian): Russian citizen
"I enjoy this performance. The music, lighting, colors, and the actors' physical expressions, all have their own unique styles, which are so refreshing."

In addition, China's intangible cultural heritages were also showcased at the Mariinsky Theatre.

On display were exquisite artworks, including amber carving, sugar figurines, shell carving, dough sculptures, finger painting and more.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Russian): Russian citizen
"From this painting, I feel that the artist is very talented. The portrait resembles me a lot. I am genuinely fond of this painting."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LI FENGYAN, Sugar figurine maker
"During our visit to Russia, we have showcased a number of ways of making sugar figurines, which never melt and can be preserved for a long time. This sugar rendering of the Chinese character 'Fu' (blessings) with the pattern of 2024 is among the most well-received."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): LIU ZHONGHE, Head of Liaoning cultural delegation
"Ballet is universally recognized as an artistic language, and intangible cultural heritages embody distinctive national characteristics. The more it's rooted in a particular culture, the more it resonates globally. So this time, as we bring ballet and intangible cultural heritage projects into Russia, we expect to further promote cultural exchanges between China and Russia."
