Adult Bald Eagle rips marsh grass out of ground and flies it to its nest

Buy video

We noticed this adult Bald Eagle acting like it wanted to take off from the ground below its nest beside the Mississippi River. We recorded it trying to rip out marsh grass/sedges from the ground by trying to take off with the grass in its talons. Finally, it took off and ripped a several meter tall strip of marsh grass--including the muddy, wet roots. It banked hard, as we followed it with the camera, and brought the grass to its gigantic nest made of tree branches. We presume it intends to line its nest with the fresh, muddy grass. This is Bald Eagle mating season.
