This octopus was captured on camera trying to make an OCTO-PASS on a woman after becoming obsessed with her pretty painted toe nails.

In this hilarious footage the octopus gently caresses Leila Roden's foot before trying to drag his new mate away into a small underwater cave and it was all captured by her photographer husband.

Captured at Coogee Beach in Sydney, Australia, Leila, 51 and her husband James, 52, were delighted to get so close to the intelligent creature, but James was not so impressed when the octopus started hitting on his wife.

James, who also lives in Sydney, said: "I would love to know - what happens now? How long does Leila have to stay at the den with you? And, what’s wrong with my feet?

"Leila’s feet seemed to be very attractive to the octopus - it could be the pink nail polish as octopuses love to make their dens protected with various brightly coloured shells.

"Unusually this day, this octopus launched out of its den very quickly and grabbed Leila’s foot, she was amused and bemused, and let the octopus walk her back to his den."

Artists Leila and James became fascinated by octopuses after watching the popular Netflix documentary My Octopus Teacher, and regularly visit the beach to spend time with the creatures.

However, Leila really didn't count on the octopus taking quite such a shine to her, she added: "What was clear was that once my foot was in the den the octopus didn’t want to let go, it just hugged my foot. I would have stayed there all day if I could but I was getting cold! We joked that he wanted to marry me.

"The experience filled us with so much joy and our guess is that the octopus was attracted to my nail polish.

"Over the years many octopuses have held our feet and touched our hands. But I have never been escorted by an octopus to an octopus's den before."
