This is the dramatic moment an out-of-control truck ploughed into four cars when the driver allegedly failed to brake on time.

The six-wheeler crashed into a black Ford pick-up truck and smashed it against three other vehicles while driving along Debaratna Road in Samut Prakan, on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, on March 6.

Bang Phli Police Station officers arrived at the scene and found the pile-up blocking one lane on the highway.

Three women in two different vehicles were injured and taken to the Chularat 1 Suvarnabhumi Hospital for treatment.

The wounded driver of a Toyota sedan said she was driving as usual when the car behind rear-ended her. She said she suffered only minor injuries because she was wearing a seatbelt.

Meanwhile, truck driver Arnon claimed he could not brake in time to avoid a collision.

He said he checked on the other drivers after the crash and reported the accident himself to authorities.

The affected lane was closed to traffic for an hour as authorities removed the damaged cars.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
