Spectacular celebrations sweep across India as thousands honour Lord Shiva during the festival of Maha Shivaratri.

Hindu devotees don elaborate disguises, including real human bones, to join the vibrant procession in homage to the deity often associated with ghosts and the supernatural. It's a sacred day drawing crowds to the streets for divine darshan.

The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated with great pomp all over India. On this day, people of Hindu religion worship Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is said to be the lord of death. Ghosts, vampires and witches always stay with him. Today is a very sacred day of Hindu religion. It is a festival, on this day a procession of Lord Shiva takes place and people disguise themselves as ghosts along with real human bones and join the procession and thousands of people come out on the streets to have their darshan.
