A Thai zoo sprayed animals with water as temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius in Thailand.

Footage shows Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo staff showering the African elephant named 'Phor Aff' with a stream of cool water amid the scorching heat in Nakhon Ratchasima province on March 8.

The jumbo happily raised its trunk, seemingly enjoying the respite from the blistering temperatures.

Zookeepers also installed sprinklers in giraffe, ostrich, zebra, and reptile enclosures to keep the creatures from suffering heat stroke.

Sunthorn Kongklang, chief of the zoo's reptile zone, said staff were monitoring reptiles such as the Southeast Asian Box turtle and sulcata tortoise, which were especially sensitive to the weather.

He said: 'We spray the animals with water from late morning to around 3 pm. For the snakes, we give them water thrice a day to help relieve them from the heat.'
