STORYLINE:

The 13th Meeting of the China-Africa Think Tanks Forum was held in Tanzania's port city of Dar es Salaam Friday, with participants describing it as a springboard for the continent's economic and industrialization agenda.
   
Opening the one-day forum, James Mdoe, deputy permanent secretary in the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, said China and Africa must figure out ways to deepen cooperation and seek to demonstrate the instrumental role that education can play in building strong societies.

"The forum is highly relevant as China and Africa have a shared desire to explore development path and build a closer community for a shared future as the theme of this particular forum states, China-Africa practice building a community with a shared future."

Nelson Boniface, deputy vice chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam, called for increased cooperation between China and Tanzania on academic and research projects in various fields.

"As Tanzanians, we are looking forward to forging relations with the North. So this kind of initiative, and the way I see, it's internationally organized. It's a very good platform for actually bringing high the ranking of our universities if we could forge relations of working together in research and academics."

Chen Mingjian, Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, said China and Africa have a shared desire to explore development paths independently and work together to build a high-quality China-Africa community with a shared future.

"This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. That means the New China has already gone through three-quarters of one century..., and we witnessed the ups and downs. We understand that quite well, so the think tank forum is important for enhancing the understanding between people."
