Aerial video of the impact of flash floods that destroyed hundreds of houses, triggered by extreme rain of up to 320 millimeters per day

Aerial video recorded on Friday, March 15, 2024, shows dozens of houses belonging to the community in Batu Bala Village, Sutera District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, which were destroyed and in disarray after flash floods hit the village on Thursday, March 7.

According to a report issued by local officials, more than 74 thousand people in Pesisir Selatan Regency were affected by flooding, which was triggered by extreme rain intensity reaching 320 millimeters per day on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Not only were tens of thousands of residents affected, but the incident also resulted in the deaths of 29 people due to flash floods and landslides that occurred at several points in the district.

Of the 29 fatalities, 25 have been found, identified, and handed over to the victims' families. Meanwhile, four other people are still being searched by officers to this day.
